Golden Hill PTA

The Golden Hill PTA is dedicated to providing assistance and support to the students and staff of Golden Hill Elementary School. We provide this assistance through a combination of volunteer activities and fund-raising efforts. Please help us in this effort by actively participating in the Golden Hill PTA.

School Site Council (SSC)

The School Site Council is required for schools receiving categorical funds. These funds are used to supplement the regular school program. The purpose of the SSC is to develop and approve the School Site Plan which is a comprehensive plan designed to improve the effectiveness of the school program. In order to accomplish this task, the SSC meets on a regular basis to assess student needs, develop and approve the plan including categorical budgets, and monitor its implementation. At Golden Hill School the SSC meets a minimum of four times a year in our school media center.

Members of the SSC include the principal, classroom teachers, other staff members, and parents. Members of the SSC are elected by their peers; therefore, parents are elected by parents. Three parents are members of the Golden Hill SSC. A member serves for two years through a nominations process. A ballot is sent home to all parents. The parents with the highest number of votes will serve on the SSC.

English Learner Advisory Council (ELAC)

The purpose of ELAC:
E.L.A.C. promotes parent support for our English Language Learners and the ELD (English Language Development) program at Golden Hill School. At the meetings, information is disseminated to parents regarding current school activities and programs. E.L.A.C. also provides training opportunities for parents to support their child’s language development at home. The trainings and its topics are scheduled based on a needs assessment completed by parents at the first meeting.

Membership:
According to E.L.A.C. by laws, at least 51% of the membership belongs to parents of English Language Learners. The remaining percentage includes any other interested parents of Golden Hill School. All members of E.L.A.C. serve for two-year terms, commencing in September. E.L.A.C. has elected officers, which are elected annually and serve for one year.

Meeting Dates:

At the 11/16/10 meeting, members voted to combine the English Learner Advisory Council with the School Site Council.
