District Superintendent, Dr. Robert Pletka
Meet the New District Superintendent


Fullerton School District Board of Trustees unanimously selected Dr. Robert Pletka as the new District Superintendent, effective July 1, 2012. Dr. Pletka will replace Dr. Mitch Hovey, current District Superintendent, who is retiring at the end of June. Dr. Pletka comes to the District after serving as the Superintendent of El Centro Elementary School District.

Dr. Pletka has authored two books, Educating the Net Generation: How to Engage Students in the 21st Century and My So-Called Digital Life, and has led technology development in all of his assignments. Prior to becoming the Superintendent of El Centro, Dr. Pletka served as Associate Superintendent of the Vista Unified School District. Earlier he was Director of Instruction and Technology for the Covina-Valley Unified School District and has taught as an elementary and middle school teacher in the Lake Elsinore Unified School District.

Dr. Pletka received his Doctorate in Education degree in the joint program at the University of California, Irvine and California Polytechnic University. His Master's degree in Educational Technology was earned at National University, while his Bachelor's degree in Communication was earned at California State University, San Bernardino.

As the new Superintendent, I am looking forward to getting to know you and our community. We are committed to providing the highest quality of education to our children. Fullerton School District wants to ensure that the sons and daughters of our community are well prepared for the jobs of the 21st century.  We are committed to providing a rigorous education while meeting the individual needs of students. In addition to offering a premiere academic experience for students, we are dedicated to creating a sense of belonging for students within the school community. Schools not only need to be safe places for our kids but also environments where students feel supported and connected to staff and other students.  We are dedicated to creating a caring place for the kids of our community. Additionally, our schools need the support and involvement of our parents and our entire community.  Our District wants and needs a highly engaged community with our schools. The community has such a high degree of expertise and dedication that can continue to make our District one of the best. As a new member of this community, I look forward to meeting all of you.
