Welcome to Orangethorpe Elementary! I am excited about our 2012-13 school year! Your child is going to have positive learning experiences with many happy memories. We believe that every child can achieve academic success and have a deep personal commitment to making that happen.

Here is a little bit of information about our learning community. Orangethorpe Elementary serves children in pre-kinder through sixth grade with about 800 students. We offer Multi-Age classrooms where students are grouped in kinder through third grade and fourth through sixth grade for specialized instruction. Our students are engaged in meaningful learning experiences focused on grade level standards.

Our Orangethorpe staff works together to provide a caring and collaborative learning community that supports all children. Your child’s safety and education is our highest priority. We really care about your child’s attendance, behavior, and academic achievement. Our talented teachers provide high quality instruction for every child. They work together to plan lessons that are meaningful, frequently checking to make sure your child is understanding the concept and adjust instruction so that your child is learning.

I have highlighted past academic accomplishments to share with you about where we have been. Orangethorpe Elementary was honored as a California Distinguished School in 1995 and recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School in 1996. This new school year, we set out on our journey of academic excellence by working together, establishing high expectations, and equipping our children with 21st century skills to ensure every child is learning at their maximum potential.

But we can’t do this alone. We need you -- our dedicated parents, committed to partnering with our school to support our students. Our home-school partnership will help us to achieve our goal of academic excellence. We are depending on you to be interested and involved in your child’s learning. We invite you to volunteer in your child’s classroom and be a part of our Parent Teacher Association (PTA), School Site Council (SSC), or English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC). These organizations help our school better serve your child.

I am confident that we have the dedication, determination, and desire to give our personal best to every child. Now you know who we are, where we have been, and where we are going . . . together.

Your partner in education,

Dr. Amanda Segovia Hale
